Basics on the topic Comparing Special Quadrilaterals—Let's Practice!

Today we are comparing special quadrilaterals with Razzi! This video contains examples to help you further practice and grow confident in this topic.

Transcript Comparing Special Quadrilaterals—Let's Practice!

Razzi says get these items ready (...) Because today we're going to practice... Comparing Special Quadrilaterals. It's time to begin! Compare and contrast the attributes in these SPECIAL quadrilaterals: a PARALLELOGRAM and a KITE. Pause the video (...) and press play when you are ready to see the solution! Both shapes have four sides with two pairs equal in length. A parallelogram's opposite sides are equal... and parallel. It's opposite angles are also equal. A kite's adjacent sides, or sides next to each other, are equal... and one pair of its opposite angles are equal. It also has no parallel sides. Did you find these attributes? Let's tackle the final problem! Compare and contrast the attributes in these SPECIAL quadrilaterals: a TRAPEZOID and a RECTANGLE. Pause the video (...) and press play when you are ready to see the solution! Both shapes have four sides. A trapezoid has one pair of equal sides... and one pair of parallel sides. It also has equal adjacent angles. A rectangle's opposite sides are equal... and it has two pairs of parallel sides. And ALL its angles are equal. Did you find these attributes? Razzi had so much fun practicing with you today! See you next time!

Would you like to apply the knowledge you’ve learned? You can review and practice it with the tasks for the video Comparing Special Quadrilaterals—Let's Practice!.
  • What are some attributes of a parallelogram?

    Hints

What do you notice about the the opposite sides?

What do you notice about the opposite angles?

    Solution

Some attributes of a parallelogram are:

    • 4 sides
    • 2 pairs of sides equal in length
    • opposite sides equal
    • opposite angles equal

  • What are some attributes of these special quadrilaterals?

    Hints

This is a parallelogram. What do you notice about the opposite sides?

This is a trapezoid. What do you notice about one pair of sides?

A rectangle has equal angles. What do you notice about all of the angles?

    Solution

These are some attributes of special quadrilaterals.

  • What attribute do these special quadrilaterals have in common?

    Hints

This kite has one pair of opposite angles. What do you notice about the angles?

This trapezoid has one pair of sides. What do you notice about the sides?

    Solution

These special quadrilaterals share only one common attribute: they all have four sides.

  • Compare and contrast a kite and a trapezoid.

    Hints

What do you notice about the adjacent sides on this kite?

What do you notice about the adjacent angles on this trapezoid?

This kite has one pair of opposite angles equal.

    Solution

    A kite has these attributes:

    • 4 sides
    • no sides parallel
    • adjacent sides equal
    • one pair of opposite angles equal

    A trapezoid has these attributes:

    • 4 sides
    • one pair of sides equal
    • one pair of sides parallel
    • adjacent angles equal

  • What are some attributes of a trapezoid?

    Hints

What do you notice about this pair of sides?

What do you notice about the adjacent angles?

    Solution

Some attributes of a trapezoid are:

    • 4 sides
    • one pair of sides equal in length
    • one pair of sides parallel
    • adjacent angles equal

  • What common attributes do a rectangle and a square share?

    Hints

The two pairs of sides are parallel on this rectangle.

What do you notice about the opposite sides on this rectangle?

What do you notice about all angles on this square?

    Solution

The common attributes that a rectangle and a square share are:

    • 4 sides
    • all angles equal
